Scottish singer-songwriter Jim Malcolm has so delighted Pasadena audiences he is coming back onto the Caltech stage for the ninth time. Susie Malcolm, also an award-winning singer, will be performing with him on Saturday, Jan. 27, at 8 p.m.
Throughout the evening, you’ll hear traditional and modern songs, strong voices, sweet harmony, masterful accompaniment, and engaging wit. For a taste of the Malcolms’ impressive range, check out a couple of tracks from their latest album, Auld Toon Shuffle: the title song (written in the 1980s by Rod Paterson about the old town of Edinburgh) and The Daemon Lover (a.k.a. A Warning for Married Women, from the 1650s or earlier).
Tickets are available at this link and by phone or in-person from the Caltech Ticket Office (626-395-4652). That office is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays in the Keith Spalding Building, 1200 California Blvd. Tickets are $25 each, or $10 for Caltech students and anyone age 16 or younger. Online and phone orders include a service charge. In-person purchases at the ticket office or at the concert have no service charge. If the concert is not sold out, ticket purchases at the door are by cash or check only.
The concert will be in Caltech’s 200-seat Beckman Institute Auditorium, inside the rectangular Beckman Institute building at 400 S. Wilson Ave., Pasadena, just west of the larger, round Beckman Auditorium. Free parking is available after 6 p.m. in lots to the east and west of Michigan Avenue a block south of Del Mar Boulevard and also in two parking structures on the west side of Wilson in the first block south of Del Mar. A different event will be in Beckman Auditorium the same evening, so the closer lots might fill early.
