We continue to work towards announcing a great Pasadena Folk Music Society show for September. This will be a huge step forward following the upheaval of COVID limitations. Watch for that news.
In the meantime, we want to share some news about some upcoming events that may be of interest to the community.
The 28th Ventura Music Festival commences July 28-30 and August 4-6, tickets are on sale at this link. Among the performers are Mark and Maggie O’Connor. With national champion titles for fiddle, guitar and mandolin Mark has performed a range of music from bluegrass to country to jazz to rock. Mark has also shared the stage at Carnegie Hall with classical violinists Issac Stern, Itzhak Perlman, Joshua Bell and Midori. Joined by his wife Maggie, a classically trained violinist, they will perform July 30th at 3 pm. Click here for a 2023 highlight reel.
The Los Angeles Folk Festival will take place Oct 7-8, 2023 at The Ford. Inspired by the deep history of folk festivals around the world, The Milk Carton Kids have invited some of their favorite songwriters to share in a two-day celebration of “intimate songcraft and Los Angeles’ historic role as an epicenter of modern folk music”.
Artists for October 7th include Sierra Ferrell, Valerie June, Davíd Garza & Freaklórico and Tré Burt. Sunday, October 8th will feature Waxahatchee, The Milk Carton Kids, Haley Heynderickx and Willie Watson. Tickets are on sale now at this link with a number of options available.
The annual Celtic Colours International Festival happens October 6-14 on Cape Breton Island. In its 27th year, the festival will have 49 musical events and 200+ community events all over Cape Breton Island. Performers are coming from Scotland, Ireland, the U.S., the U.K., Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Quebec, and Ontario. This video gallery will give you a feel for the scope of talent that comes each year. New to the festival this year is celebrated American banjo player and 15-times Grammy winner Béla Fleck and the American roots music duo Jay Ungar and Molly Mason. You may recognize Jay and Molly’s music from the Ken Burns documentary The Civil War. Want to go, but can’t travel? There will be one streaming concert each night of the festival.
