The Kathy Kallick Band!! New date: Saturday, Nov. 16 at 7:30 PM!

Kathy Kallick Band “One of the greatest bluegrass vocalists of her generation…”

The Kathy Kallick Band, had to postpone their August 3 show, but we’ve worked out a new date  and we’ll be delighted to deliver the goods on Saturday, November 16 at the earlier-than-usual 7:30 PM.  The show will be at Knox Presbyterian Church, 225 S. Hill Ave.  This show is worth the wait!  Tickets are available now!

This mighty band combines the distinctive voice, guitar and songwriting skills of Grammy-winner Kathy Kallick with four other outstanding musicians: Annie Staninec on fiddle, Greg Booth on dobro and banjo, Tom Bekeny on mandolin, and Cary Black on acoustic bass.  They sing with clear voices and stirring harmonies.  Lend an ear to This Old Lonesome Song.  Kallick wrote it and put it on her band’s latest album, The Lonesome Chronicles, which combines themed originals and some classics to mine a deep vein of bluegrass tradition. Roscoe Got the Rabbit, a track showcasing Staninec and Booth on a Dennis Fechet tune, has a non-traditional twist, however, in the identity of the rabbit, which they’re apt to tell at the show.

Since co-founding the Good Ol’ Persons with Laurie Lewis and others in 1975, Kallick and her bands have released 21 albums featuring more than 150 of her original compositions and arrangements.  Bluegrass Unlimited magazine said, “she’s one of the greatest bluegrass vocalists of her generation or any other.”  Sing Out! magazine said, “Kathy Kallick is one of the best songwriters in bluegrass and acoustic music, always coming up with interesting, sometimes playful, always sure-handed songs.”  She won a Grammy and two International Bluegrass Music Awards for her participation in True Life Blues: The Songs of Bill Monroe, which included a duet with Lewis on the title cut.  Kallick played two Pasadena Folk Music Society concerts in 2015: one with her band and an evening of duets with Lewis.  Wonderful memories of those add to our excitement about the upcoming show.

Tickets are available at this link.  Knox Presbyterian Church is a new location for a Pasadena Folk Music Society concert.  It offers more seats than our usual venue, but tickets are already going fast and could run out. Tickets sold out for our July 6  Syncopaths concert, so we recommend getting your tickets early for this Kathy Kallick show.  We do have more seating in the church, so we hope to have room for all.
