CANCELED! Kathy Kallick Band – Saturday, August 3
Saturday, August 3 @ 7:30 pm
The Pasadena Folk Music Society is proud to present one of the best California bluegrass bands on the West Coast, the Kathy Kallick Band. Long based in the Bay area, this group matches the distinctive voice, guitar, and songwriting skills of Kathy Kallick with 4 other amazing musicians, Annie Staninec (fiddle), Greg Booth (dobro & banjo), Tom Bekeny (mandolin), and Cary Black (acoustic bass), all of whom provide sterling harmonies. Along with great original songs, they perform folk, country, and bluegrass standards, and instrumentals, along with some other familiar songs. They performed in our series in 2015. Kathy also did a show here with Laurie Lewis, her longtime friend and fellow co-founder of the Good Ol’ Persons. The Kathy Kallick Band’s music is upbeat, energetic, and traditional, all at the same time, and has a lot of heart. They do some sad songs, too. A few examples of their style include Kathy’s song Foxhounds; the instrumental Lonesome Dobro Blues, a tune by Greg Booth, showcasing their great instrumental prowess; and their version of the Osborne Brothers’ There’s a Higher Power.
Note that this show only is at a different location (a few blocks away) and starts a half hour earlier at 7:30 PM, doors open at 7:00 PM.
The concert is Saturday, August 3 at Knox Presbyterian Church, 225 S. Hill Ave., Pasadena, several blocks from Caltech. Knox Presbyterian Church has a parking lot and nearby street parking.
