Jeni Hankins, Appalachian Singer, songwriter and guitarist
Saturday, October 6, 2018 @ 8:00 pm
Jeni Hankins has been through a great deal since her two previous appearances at Caltech with Billy Kemp as Jeni and Billy. Jeni’s father passed away in 2016 and she and Billy have parted ways. And Jeni has moved to London! But the same endearing directness of this Appalachian woman from Jewell Ridge, Virginia still shines through. Jeni has just released her first solo recording, The Oxygen Girl and you can read Art Podell’s glowing review here. Her stories come from a broader geography, ranging from England to Las Vegas and places in between. They also relfect the emotions and insights following the passing of her father. Jeni plays guitar and banjo, and has been known to bring an autoharp or another instrument or two along. She just might do a little flat foot dancing, too. We hear she is going to perform with a sewing machine in this show! We will likely hear some of the old songs, the new ones, and maybe some brand new songs! You will want to be here! See her web site Jenihankins.com
Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for Caltech students and children. They can be purchased on the phone (626-395-4652) with a credit card (a service charge will be added per order), purchased at the Caltech Public Events Ticket Office in the Spalding Building (California Blvd. and Wilson Avenue) for face value (open Monday-Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 pm.), or purchased at the door for cash or check (no credit cards.) You can get them online, too (for a fee) until Thursday, October 4 here. Occasionally, a show will be sold out before the day of the show, so call the Ticket Office, if you are planning to buy tickets at the door. Better yet, join our mailing list and you’ll be informed about such situations ahead of time.
