Kathy Kallick Band – Saturday, August 3, 7:30 PM- concert at Knox Presbyterian Church, a couple of blocks from Caltech (new location)

Saturday, August 3 @ 7:30 pm

$10 – $29

The Pasadena Folk Music Society is proud to present one of the best California bluegrass bands on the West Coast, the Kathy Kallick Band.  Long based in the Bay area, this group matches the distinctive voice, guitar,  and songwriting skills of Kathy Kallick with 4 other amazing musicians, Annie Staninec (fiddle), Greg Booth (dobro & banjo), Tom Bekeny (mandolin), and Cary Black  (acoustic bass), all of whom provide sterling harmonies.  Along with great original songs, they perform folk, country, and bluegrass standards, and instrumentals, along with some other familiar songs.  They performed in our series in 2015, and Kathy also did a show here with Laurie Lewis, her longtime friend and fellow co-founder of the Good Ol’ Persons.  The Kathy Kallick Band’s music is upbeat, energetic, and traditional, all at the same time, and it has a lot of heart.  They do some sad songs, too.  A few examples of their style include Kathy’s song, Foxhounds,  the instrumental, Lonesome Dobro Blues, a  tune by Greg Booth, showcasing their great instrumental prowess, and their version of the Osborne Brothers’ There’s a Higher Power.

Note that this show is at a location different than our usual Caltech venue (a few blocks away) and starts a half hour earlier, at 7:30 PM, doors opening at 7:00 PM.

The concert is Saturday, August 3 and will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, several blocks from Caltech, at 225 S. Hill Ave. (between Cordova Street and Del Mar Boulevard) in Pasadena at 7:30 PM.  Doors open at 7PM.  Note new location and time, for this show only.  The church has a parking lot and there is overflow parking, if needed, on neighborhood streets.  Tickets are $25, and $10 for Caltech students and children 16 years and under.  A $4 service charge per ticket applies to orders online and by phone (626-395-4652)  through the Caltech Ticket Office, which is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. There is no service charge for tickets purchased in person at the ticket office during those hours- It is wise to call before you come, in case of special schedule.  It’s in the Keith Spalding Building at 1200 California Blvd.  Note:  Caltech Commencement is Friday, June 15.  The Ticket Office will likely be closed on June 14-15, and coverage will be spotty on June 12-13, though you can try calling.  Regular hours will resume Monday, June 18.
